Thea Beckman writes many columns, short stories and thirty novels during her lifetime. She receives prizes for them. She begins writing in Wijk C, in an upstairs apartment at the beginning of Waterstraat, around the corner from Oudegracht. Her children are born in Wijk C and attend the Dutch Reformed Diaconate School at 27 Waterstraat, the building that now houses the Volksbuurt Museum.

In October 2024, author Vivian de Gier presents her biography ‘Geef me de ruimte’. The biography shows what an exceptionally versatile person Thea Beckman was, a driven woman who, regardless of what others thought of her, always chose her own path. The publication of this biography is reason for the museum to focus attention on the life and work of Thea Beckman with an exhibition.
