Buurten over Grenzen: Brasil Mundi Jam Session – Junina’s Party

Buurten over Grenzen: Brasil Mundi Jam Session - Junina's Party

This June 8 edition will be dedicated to the rhythms of the Northeast since in June in Brazil the Festas Juninas or June Festival are celebrated: “festivities that occur in the month of June”), also known as Festas de São João for their part in celebrating the nativity of St. John the Baptist (June 24), are the annual Brazilian celebrations adapted from European Midsummer that take place in the southern midwinter. These festivities, which were introduced by the Portuguese during the colonial period (1500–1822), are celebrated during the month of June nationwide. The festival is mainly celebrated on the eves of the Catholic solemnities of Saint Anthony, Saint John the Baptist, and Saint Peter. Therefore we will dedicate to the rhythms of Forro, Xote, Xaxado, Baião and some gallops – typical music of the June Festivals.

You will also learn how to dance a square dance, the typical dance of the Festas Juninas in the Northeast and which is also celebrated in other states of Brazil! It will be a lot of fun and unmissable! The stage is open for those who want to join in on making music. We offer something different every month. Whether it is a drum introduction workshop or a dance class… there’s always something to do. So join us!
