American singer-songwriter Samantha Crain makes intense, dark-tinged indie folk. Crain, who counts Norwegian duo First Aid Kit among her fans, is blessed with a distinctive voice, once described by US music magazine Rolling Stone as ‘beautifully strange’. Her Native American heritage is one of her inspirations – for instance, she sings the track Red Sky, Blue Mountain (from her fourth album You Had Me At Goodbye) in Choctaw, the language of her ancestors. In September, she released the single Dragonfly, on which Crain showcases her rock side.
