Malian couple Amadou & Mariam, consisting of singer Mariam Doumbia and singer/guitarist Amadou Bagayoko, is also known as “The blind couple from Mali” – both have been blind since childhood. The duo mixes traditional Malian music with Western influences, resulting in conjuring desert blues and swinging afrofunk. The two have now been making music for over 40 years and have collaborated with Manu Chao (he produced their 2005 breakthrough album Dimanche à Bamako), Damon Albarn (Blur) and TV on the Radio. Expect an evening as eclectic as it is uplifting.
