Traditionally, the festival ends with a magnificent chamber music party. With two important masterpieces by Sergei Taneyev and Johannes Brahms, the beauty and joy of making music together is central. Musicians who have already played a major role during the festival show once again that the whole is more than the sum of its parts. Janine Jansen herself leads the formation of top musicians in the Second Piano Quartet by Johannes Brahms.

Johannes Brahms was actually still a youngster when he wrote his Second Piano Quartet. Yet, at the age of 28, he managed to compose not only the longest piano quartet with almost fifty minutes, but also one of the most compelling. There is not a note too many in this exciting four-part story that demands the utmost from the musicians.

Sergei Taneyev was not called the ‘Russian Brahms’ for nothing. This pupil of Tchaikovsky combined a powerful sense of form with classical beauty and folk-musical clarity. In 1911, in the last years of his life, it resulted in a Piano Quintet that Janine Jansen and her chamber music friends rightly brought to attention. A somewhat forgotten work to fall in love with.

Before this concert there is an introduction at 19:00 in the Fentener van Vlissingen Foyer . A ticket for the introduction can be ordered at the same time as a concert ticket.
