In the historic surroundings of Gasthuis Leeuwenbergh, the London Paddington Trio presents its calling card. The trio was founded in 2020 when the members met at Paddington Station on the London Underground. In the meantime, the trio has won many international awards and Strings Attached wrote enthusiastically: ‘their youth does not detract from their excellence – they are, however you look at it, each and every one of them great musicians.’

The Paddington Trio’s great mission is to bridge the gap between new listeners and seasoned classical music lovers. They do this by playing classics such as Haydn and Mendelssohn as well as new work such as Freakshow by the young Irish composer Sam Perkin. A cleverly constructed playful work in which his love for pop, dance and minimal music is married to contemporary sounds.

Mendelssohn’s Second Piano Trio has long since become one of the great contributions to the trio repertoire. The composer completed the piece in 1846 and presented it as a birthday present to his sister Fanny. A gift with eternal value, as it turned out. The trio inspired no less than Johannes Brahms, who used excerpts from it in his Third Piano Quartet, among other works.
