Shane van Neerden – Gasthuis Leeuwenbergh 11:00 – 11:45
The versatility of this pianist and his programme is evident from the worldwide choice of music this afternoon. According to him, the music of the Persian-British Kajkhosru Sorabji is ‘full of jazzy harmonies and hypnotic sounds’, but after these adventurous pieces, Shane van Neerden just as easily takes you to the minimalist China Gates by John Adams and Maurice Ravel’s Gaspard de la nuit. He concludes with songs by Charles Ives about the typical American countryside – an image that feels ‘own’ to him because of his American roots. Shane van Neerden is the winner of the Dutch Classical Talent Award 2024.

Moon Garden – Bartholomeus Gasthuis 12:30 – 13:15
A common thread in the walking concerts is that musicians explore the boundaries of chamber music. Or cross them, of course. Moon Garden fits perfectly into this picture, because when do you find an electric guitar in a chamber music ensemble? The trio arranges with classical music, jazz and French chansons. With this innovative style, Moon Garden won the Young Makers Prize of the Dutch Violin Competition in 2024.

Tree of Life – Centraal Museum 14:00 – 14:45
In this musical story, the story, the instruments and the music form a seamless whole. Cellist Maya Fridman wrote the composition ‘Tree of Life’ for traditional instruments from the Western classical world and the Middle East, and has interwoven her music with Persian poetry by Rumi and David Caplan, which is performed in this concert by singer Channa Malkin. The story that Fridman wants to tell is inspired by the ten spiritual principles from the Jewish religious tradition, with the ‘tree of life’ as a symbol. This represents the spiritual development that man goes through.
