Hidden Arts: What do we make when no one sees us is an exhibition that explores alternative economies of collectivity, shared resource building, and arts organizing from the perspective of RAIN, Arts Collaboratory (AC), and lumbung—three trans-local artistic networks with interrelated stories of becoming—as well as the Mutual Support Platform (MSP), a network connected to MAFA HKU, Utrecht. The curatorial project is envisioned as a dedicated time and space to celebrate, reflect on, and make accessible some of the resources and tools developed by these networks through collective imagination and practice. It will feature a carefully articulated program promoting forms of exchange, study, and ideation through nongkrong, or “hanging out together.” Confronted with the harsh realities of a dominant arts system that benefits only a few—where competition rather than collaboration is the norm—the intention is to cultivate an understanding of alternative approaches to working and relating that exist in the present, and towards the future.
