Open Garden Day Utrecht 2025

On Saturday, June 28, 2025, the 14th edition of the Open Garden Day Utrecht will take place. More than fifty private gardens and courtyards in and around the Utrecht city center, most of which are not publicly accessible, will open their gates to the public. This green event has now become a regular fixture on the calendar and attracts between 1,500 and 2,000 visitors each year.

Invisible behind medieval walls and picturesque gates in the city center lie the urban and inner gardens of Utrecht: green oases of peace and often surprising garden architecture.

Each garden has its own unique character, whether it is a large garden of institutions or small private gardens, hidden courtyards, and courtyards, gardens with minimalist architecture, or gardens with sculptures and ponds. The Open Garden Day Utrecht gives visitors a unique opportunity to enjoy these special gardens.

The Gardens
New this year are the beautifully enclosed city garden at Nieuwegracht 45 and the garden at Springweg 107, which stands out particularly for its unusual planting. In addition, gardens that have only participated a few times before are also joining, such as the corner garden at Brigittenstraat 9, with its different levels.

Long-standing favorites, such as the garden of Zuylenspiegel on A.B.C. street, the small walled city garden at Nieuwegracht 201, and several gardens on Maliebaan, will also be part of this year’s event. Returning after a hiatus is the Oude Hortus at Lange Nieuwstraat, which was unable to participate for several years due to the renovation of the University Museum.

Passe-partout
During the Open Garden Day Utrecht, the participating gardens can be visited between 10:00 and 17:00 with a passe-partout. This program booklet contains a description of each location and a handy map with walking routes. A passe-partout costs €15.00 per person and will be available from May 1 at the VVV Utrecht, Domplein 9, or can be purchased via the VVV webshop: utrecht-winkel.nl.
